Mummy Mayhem at Highclere Castle
It was a very wet week when Year 4 visited Highclere castle; the home of Lord Carnarvon and filming location of Downton Abbey. As the Year 4 children would be able to tell you, the fifth Earl of Carnarvon was responsible for financing the discovery of the unopened tomb of Tutankhamun and has created a museum in the basement of his house to showcase his findings. From ancient artefacts to replica mummies, the trip certainly had the 'wow' factor and, despite being rather damp underfoot, was enjoyed by all.
Diwali comes to Fairisle!
On November 12th, Year 4 celebrated the Hindu festival of Diwali, the festival of light, as part of our RE curriculum. The children looked amazing in their finest Diwali clothes and had a great day doing many activities that would be part of a traditional Diwali celebration in an Indian home. We made Indian sweets, created Rangoli patterns using coloured sand and learnt some Indian dances (confidently led by Miss O'Shea!). We all had a day to remember!
