Year 3 Cornish afternoon & R.E. day

Year 3 had a wonderful afternoon tasting cream teas and Cornish pasties before we started our English unit - Mousehole Cat.

Our Brilliant R.E. day!
The children learnt lots from our visitor, Matt about Christianity and the meaning of Holy.
They completed many fun activities, from competing in groups to piece together an angel to creating their own candles.

Hallowe'en Discos

Last Wednesday evening the children put on their scariest costumes and came back to school in the evening for the annual Hallowe'en discos.  Mr Woods played the tunes and the children danced to their favourite tracks.

As you can see, everyone enjoyed themselves!

Fairisle Junior Awarded School Games Gold Award

This morning we received a visit from a School Games Award external moderator, who scrutinised all the evidence we have collected over the past year.

I am very pleased and proud to be able to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious Gold Award, being one of the first city primary schools to obtain this highest possible mark.

Very well done to Mr Woods and his team of coaches.

We are VERY PROUD!

In assembly on Monday morning, each prospective Head Girl and Head Boy made a presentation to the school.  Every child then received a ballot paper and voted for their choices.

Very well done to all the children from Year 6 who participated and congratulations to Ellie and Bradley, this year's Head Girl and Head Boy.

A busy half term!

Year 6 have had a busy start to the year with their trip to Little Canada and the Boatshow trip. Throughout this time, children have developed their self-confidence and independence whilst overcoming some fears along the way too! Here are just a few photos of the past half term.

The rib ride was enjoyed by all the children. They loved speeding round the Solent!

Group paddle boarding at the Boatshow was amazing. The children worked really well together as a team and enjoyed throwing themselves into the water for a quick swim afterwards.
Getting ready for a canoe and kayak on the sea at Little Canada.
Getting ready for quad-biking. All the children enjoyed this, even the ones who were a little worried at the start.
It was on the giant swing that fears of heights were overcome. This turned out to be one of their     favourite activities!
We had some children who really found their talent with archery!

Conquering the Jacob's ladder - not an easy task!

Viking Invasion!

On Thursday 1st of October, Year 5 became Vicious Vikings!

Ingar Silver Tongue, kindly took time out of his busy Viking schedule to teach us about the lives of these brutal invaders. We handled precious artefacts, which are thousands of years old and proved ourselves as invaders during invasion drills. Miss Janson proved she would not have survived as a Viking, when testing out some of the armour, and the Wolves proved to be victorious during the spear wrestling (fear not, this is not as gruesome as it sounds!).
The children (and teachers) had a fantastic day in their Viking outfits, and feel much more prepared for any pending invasion!
